Scholarships
Sitka Tribe of Alaska provides a variety of scholarships intended to support Tribal citizens and eligible Alaska Natives or American Indians participating in educational programs that improve their capacity to participate in haa kusteeyí (our way of life). This may include pursuit of a degree or work-related training, youth activities, cultural heritage activities, and any other scholarship program established by Tribal Council. Please note that most STA scholarships do not cover the entire cost of participation in these programs, and applicants should expect to access personal and other resources in addition to applying for STA scholarships.

STA Tribal citizens ages 3 – 18 living in Sitka are eligible for one $100 scholarship each year to pay for costs associated with extracurricular activities, such as athletics, music, or summer camp. Payments are made directly to the activity provider.

STA citizens, regardless of residency, who are enrolled full-time in degree programs at accredited higher education institutions are eligible to apply for scholarships. Other Alaska Native and American Indian students who have lived in Sitka for at least six months are also eligible to apply if they are not already receiving scholarship assistance from another Tribe.
Undergraduate students may receive up to $3,000 per academic year for up to five (5) years, with a lifetime maximum of $15,000. Students who continue on to graduate school are eligible for additional scholarship funding of up to $3,000 per academic year, with a lifetime maximum of $9,000 for graduate studies. The amount awarded each year varies depending on the annual budget and the number of applicants.
STA higher education scholarships are intended to be supplemental to other funding. Applicants must also apply for federal assistance by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
Application deadlines are April 1 for new applicants, May 1 for returning applicants, and October 1 for fall semester applications.
