Are you a beader? Formline artist? Painter? Do you eat or harvest beach foods like clams?

The Sitka Tribe of Alaska and Kodiak Area Native Association are commissioning artwork of any medium to highlight the cultural significance of shellfish and beach foods. The selected artists will be commissioned to make three art pieces, which we will feature in our educational materials on paralytic shellfish poisoning prevention.

Alaska Native artists with strong ties to Southeast Alaska or Kodiak are eligible. Selected artists will receive a $2,000 stipend.

The artwork created will support the tribally led research and education program Knowledge Warding Against Toxin Levels (KWATL), which aims to prevent paralytic shellfish poisoning. To learn more about the program visit our website.

For examples of art used in public or environmental health programs, follow this link. Your art doesn’t have to match these styles – the examples are simply here to show how artwork might be incorporated into our education and outreach materials. The artists will not be responsible for writing any accompanying text.
