Louise Brady – Kh’asheech Tláa is Yéil (raven) moiety, Kiks.ádi (frog) clan, X’aaká Hít (Point House). She was born and raised in Sitka. Her previous roles with Sitka Tribe include service as Director of the Social Services department and Administrator of Tribal Court. She is the founder and director of the Herring Protectors, a grassroots movement led by Indigenous women that uses the original teachings of the Kiks.ádi women — ceremony and collective organizing — to stand up to unjust legacies of colonization and genocide that have led to the devastation of the yaaw (herring). Kh’asheechtlaa also serves on the Advisory Board of Native Movement. She has co-produced and directed two award-winning films, and is working on a third. Louise was the recipient of a 2022 – 2023 NDN Changemaker Fellowship. She has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Fort Lewis College.
